mechani-cat? meCATic? i don't know.

Postby dlb » Fri Aug 24, 2012 3:10 am

i got my cat to do some work on the back end of my corolla the other day. he has tiny fingers just like the japanese guys who designed the thing, so he can actually reach everything. i'll consider renting him out to anyone else with fat hands.

Funny! Better be doing a walkaround before jumping in the car with that one. A flat cat is no fun.

If he does engine work, hopefully he's well aware of the dangers of drive belts. Heard stories...

just keep him away from the upholstery, not sure he could do a good job there based on the other handywork I have seen his kind do.

humm, think he can clean the mouse nests out of my heater ducts?

He might make a good watch-cat, like a burglar alarm but with a more persuasive way of keeping undesirables away.

What is that beautiful red beast that the feline is working on? It doesn't look like my '86 Wagon's c-pillar area...

Are you sure the cat is working on the car? That wheel looks suspiciously close to compressing its belly...
In case you get a call from PETA - I know nothing...

it's one of the corolla 4WD wagons. they replaced the 4WD tercel, and were made from '88-'92. they're quite different though: AWD rather than 4WD, vented rotors, fuel injected, 1.6 L engine, smoother ride, less ground clearance, more comfortable seats...i'm a pretty big fan of them, but i'd say i love them and tercs equally. both very, very dope.

Oh man, another thing to add to my Craigslist alerts. Are they easy to work on, too? I think I need one of these and a Civic Wagovan, and I'd be set for life.

BTW - did you receive payment for the stickers? They look great!

i had been keeping track but i can't remember now--i'm sure i did get your payment, so thank you! glad you dig them. still got 5 left, i think.

the engines in the corolla wagons are more tightly squeezed in so there are lots of jobs on it that will not be as easy as on the terc. so far though, with the few jobs i've done on it, i've found it to be very easy to work on. lots of common sense, maintenance-minded designs.

I have done some heavy maintenance on the all-trac. the head is a lot more work to remove, lots more parts to it and since the engine is transverse all the stuff at the front of the engine (water pump, timing belt, etc) is way more difficult to access. otoh, it is much easier to drop the pan and inspect the bearings. Removing the trans for a clutch change is also a very big job, the transaxle is very heavy and bulky, takes two to wiggle it out and lower it down. Suspension, brakes, rear drive train is all about the same. The engine is I think more durable however and does not need as much regular maintenance (no carb because of efi).
