If it's been failing for high hydrocarbons and is blowing blue smoke, you've probably clogged the catalytic converter.

Either that or you cooked the O2 sensor.

Temporarily no longer a member of the Terc Owners Family.

As of about 10 minutes ago my Tercel rolled down the road under new ownership. The forum member on here known as Splatterdog bought her. I know she's gone to a good home, but I still can't help but feel a pang of loss. :( She was one of the few cars I've owned (and I've owned quite a few) that I had...

The most famous I know of is the 20R. GAWD I would love one of those in a Terc 4WD!!

Too bad the modifications to make it mate up would probably be a total nightmare.....

You think that's bad? My 1980 Saab 900GLE that I had in California had 390mm rims. There was only one brand, one model, in one size tire that fit it. At $147.00 a tire in 1990!!

Needless to say I switched rims to 15" very quickly.

Something to consider is WHY you're burning exhaust valves - the most common culprit is a plugged catalytic converter.

I agree, GTS. If I was a lot closer I'd go for that one with the tranny trouble and swap in my drivetrain.

If you ever think you're having problems with rust, let me post a couple pictures of mine and you'll change your mind. ;)

Nah, it was definitely the postman that did it. Only one set of tire tracks in the fresh snow.....

My first sighting of one of these was in 1986. I was walking home (taking a shortcut through the local 4WD trails) and here's this 86 stuck in the mud. It only had about 1000 miles on it. The two guys driving were panicking because it was their mom's car and they were supposed to be only going to th...

I left for work one day. The snow plows had just been down my road leaving a nice bank on each side of the road. I realized I forgot my smokes at home. Turned into one of those driveways (yeah, right) that farmers use to get into their fields. There's a guy in a Chevy S-10 coming down the road and h...

My little rant about postal workers.....

Last Friday I got to check my mail. I notice the door off my mailbox is lying in the ditch. I then notice that my mailbox is destroyed. By the deformation of the mailbox I can easily tell it was destroyed by the door being caught in an open window of a car. Now, since my mailbox is far enough off th...

From what I've read, a 4AGE with a Weber carb seems to give the best results. Until you decide to give it everything its got one day and find your tranny in pieces. Our tranny is the weakest link. If there was some way to put a better tranny in there, the possibilities would be endless. But sadly, a...

So what if it's not an SR-5? It's still got exactly the same drivetrain as an SR-5 model including the 6 speed tranny. As Arch says, it's got a couple trim pieces different. That's all. And when you consider mine which is 3 years newer, has 85,000 more miles on it, and has been parked on a permenant...

Mine seemed happiest on the Bosch. ND I got on average 1-2mpg less and got some hesitation at higher RPM's. The only NGK's I'll use are Copper Plus, and the local NAPA didn't have them in the right temp range for the Toyota. I've always had good luck with Bosch plugs. I put 100,000 miles on one set ...

Bryan, I don't know how much it would help, but my car has the blue/grey interior. It's in pretty good shape, just needs a good cleaning. But the outer body is shot. The drivetrain is in pretty good shape, nothing broken, everything works. The rear brakes are a little iffy to the point that the e-br...
