I do not think I would attemp a desiel conversion. Even if you can find something that would bolt up (not likely), the grear ratios would be all wrong, the whole fuel system needs modify, etc. It would be a lot of work and the results would be disapointing I think. I think the gear ratios would be ...

I love it! I'd put a strong grill in the lower open part of the bumper for both looks and protection. And your rear marker lights are broken. :P I'd try a piece of metal channel behind the lights so that it would stick out above and below the lens and give it some protection. Trimmed to match the le...

No EL on the autos. If you need to replace the tranny anyway, why not put in a manual?

Universal flares are available. They are molded with a curve in them, but are supposed to be flexible enough to conform to different fenders. I can't remember where I saw them, maybe JC Whitney? I've never tried them, so this isn't necessarily an endorsement....

I think Toyota was hiding the real engine codes from the public. I have an old ad for the AE86, they refer to the 4A-GE as the TC-16. :?

Same. Some places were saying that modern oil formulations are no longer friendly to our non-roller rockers... Maybe check for bluing on your cam or rocker arms? Another reason Moly isn't a bad idea, be it in Schaeffer's or just a heavy additive... I recently read a pretty good article about this i...

my 80/100W lights are like regular H4's i bet there is a ton of resistance in my 20 year old wiring harness. I noticed the same thing on an '83 GMC. I put E-code H4s on it and then upgraded to 80/100 bulbs. The bulbs made no difference until I installed relays. I'd get some relays in there before y...

The starter on it is HUGE and has something like a 90Amp draw. 90? You mean 900? The little Denso starters on Japanese cars can draw around 300. I have no idea how much the starter on our GM 6.2L diesel draws, but it has 1800 CCA available to it. Wasn't enough to start it with Walfart 15w-40 in the...

Heh. No advantage? Geo Metro 1.3L SOHC FWD Differential Ratio- 3.944:1 5th Gear O/D Ratio- 0.87:1 Where'd you get those numbers? I can't prove that they're wrong, but in a 1992 tranny bolted to basically the same engine, the ratios are: Final Drive = 3.5238095238 (21:74) Fifth Gear = .75757575758 (...

I'd love to see it go in the Geo. But I don't know if the fuel economy would really go up much. The '79 Rabbit probably got about 50 MPG too, the only advantage to the Geo is aerodynamics. You might get 55 MPG if you keep the speeds down, the older VW diesels aren't geared low like a torquey TDI. Th...

I can make a diagram if you need it. I guess I don't really need to make one. Just follow Mr. Stern's with one minor difference. http://dsl.torque.net/images/relaycircuit.gif See how the relay coil terminals (#85 & #86) are grounded on one side and get +12v from the headlamp switch? If the Terc...
